When Acronyms Attack

September 20th, 2007  |  Published in Stuff  |  1 Comment

Our society appears to be so fast-paced that just about every phrase is turned into an acronym. Well it would appear somethings this isn’t the best idea.

A few days ago in Seattle it became public that a new line opening up in December of this year would be called the South Lake Union Trolley. Or SLUT. The name was quickly changed to South Lake Union Streetcar.

But since America is a nation of folks that can always find a way to make money, Kapow! Coffee started selling shirts that read, “Ride the S.L.U.T.” Not only is it funny, but I might even
wear one. I wonder if anybody would wear a tee that says “Ride the SLUS?”

I’ve always liked “Stevenson Hall Intramural Team”.
