This design from 360 Electrical is amazing. At many levels it is so darn simple it is hard to explain why nobody thought if it before. Heck I had a need for this type of item just a few days ago. I bet they are going to sell millions of these.

Artists Michael Elmgreen and Ingar Dragset recently unveiled their newest sculpture, entitled Prada Marfa. The work is located on the outskirts of Valentine, Texas (pop. 120) near Marfa on desolate land with no other visible trace of civilization. It looks to be a luxury boutique with a display of Fall 2005 Prada shoes and bags. […]

Jeffrey Zeldman’s venerable online design magazine A List Apart has relaunched with a new design, interface, servers, CMS, you name it. It is simply stunning. Jason Santa Maria was the designer and Eric Meyer did the coding. And as always the content is stellar. Of special interest for me was an article by Jim Coudal […]

A few weeks ago I started to write a post that Design in Flight had decided not to put out anymore PDF issues. I never moved it out of a draft format. Then today I noticed that another issue is up and the site has been redesigned. If you have not heard of Design in […]

The above is a poster called Light Years. It was designed for the Architectural League of New York by Michael Bierut and Nicole Trice in 1999. Michael is one of the creative minds behind Design Observer, and wonderful blog about design. Go spend some time there.
Update: Here is a short interview w/ the before mentioned […]

The "text book" approach says that logos must always be used in an exact manner. For most firms their logos are outlined in hundred page "graphic usage guidelines." How to use the logo in a brochure, the side of a van, or on a shirt. Companies want to ensure their logos are always used […]

William Drenttel from the always intelligent Design Observer points us to a recent poster (click here for a larger version) he received for the upcoming American Institute of Graphic Arts conference in Boston. There is something about the design that just makes me want to sit here and look at it for the next 20 […]

The Pantone Color Institute has released their list of hot colors. Newsweek has a story as well. Nice PR stunt BTW.

James Dyson is a smart guy with a lot of gumption. You may not recognize the name, but I bet you’ve either seen his product in a local store or one of his recent television commercials. His inspiring story goes something like this. In 1978 Dyson was vacuuming his home. He soon realized his bag […]

After seeing a creative ad on Salon the other day I decided to walk into a Target store for the time in more then a decade. I was impressed beyond belief. The store itself was open and clean. Stuff was easy to locate. But more then anything the items in the Michael Graves Collection were […]

Mistakes result from the choice of inappropriate goals. A person makes a poor decision, misclassified a situation, or fails to take all the relevant factors into account. Many mistakes arise from the vagaries of human thought, often because people tend to rely upon remembered experiences rather than on more systematic analysis. We make decisions based […]

I’ve always though Jon Hick’s weblog was the most visual stunning on the Web. Well not that long he launched a redesign of the site. Click here to see some of the concepts that didn’t make it.

Dan Cederholm at SimpleBits recently updated his Stockholm set of royalty-free icons. He mentions that over the months since he started selling them, that he has received quite a few messages asking "how do you create an icon?." Well I guess he got enough emails about this topic because he also provides a detailed and […]

Over at Mike Davidson’s blog is a fairly detailed overview of how ABCNews.com redesigned their site. But I just had to cringed at the following statement he made in the intro to the post, "A collaborative effort between the ABCNews team in New York City, the Disney Internet Group in Seattle, and a few outside […]

I stumbled across a link to a fairly new PDF creative publication, Design in Flight. I am still waiting for the first two issues to arrive via email after paying w/ PayPal, but with authors like Eric Meyer, Jon Hicks, Keith Robinson, and Eris Free I have a feeling it will be a fun read. […]
