Internet advertising revenues in the U.S. hit $5.9 billion for Q1 2010, representing a healthy 7.5 percent increase over the same period in ’09, according to numbers recently released by the Interactive Advertising Bureau and PricewaterhouseCoopers. This is the highest first-quarter revenue level ever.

However, quarterly revenues were much lower than the fourth quarter of ’09, when revenues totaled $6.3 billion. But of course fourth-quarter results are always higher because of increased spending in and around the holiday buying season.

Yesterday Google announced they’re opening a new third party Application Gallery for Google Analytics.

The gallery already has more than 30 applications. Applications are organized into 12 categories, including business intelligence, campaign management, content, data collection, e-commerce, email marketing, mobile marketing, phone tracking, reporting tools, SEO, site auditing, and widgets and gadgets.

A few that seemed very promising included Analytics Visualizations, Analyticator for WordPress, and WordStream Keyword Management for SEO. Plus, coming soon, is a brand new set of Google Analytics reports for AdWords (video included above). You’ve got no excuse not to know anything and everything that is happening with your site.

ExactTarget released a study last week which indicates marketers plan to increase spending related to email, social media, and other non-traditional outbound channels this year.

The study of 1,000-plus marketers shows 54% of marketers said they will boost budgets for email marketing, and about 66% in social media (even though about 80% of those acknowledged the difficulty in tracking ROI in the medium).

Delving deeper into the report, the research showed social networking is the “fastest growing digital marketing channel.” More than 70% plan to increase spending on “off-site” social media offerings such as Facebook and Twitter, and about 65% in “on-site” areas such as “blogs or ratings and reviews.”
