Is Your Firm Doing a Podcast?
![]()
Is there still such a thing as a mass media? I don’t think so.
Of course we’ve always been a culture of diverse people with different backgrounds and interests, and marketing people have always recognized this. But until a little more then a decade ago you could place an ad on NBC during prime time and reach maybe 30 percent of all those watching television.
Or if you were a local business in St. Louis and you wanted to reach business professionals, radio ads on KMOX during morning and afternoon drive-time would have done it.
That is no longer the case. The media market is fragmented into hundreds if not thousands of specialized outlets. But don’t fret; this is a good, not a bad thing. We now have media outlets where we know ahead of the time that the vast majority of the audience is made up of rocket scientists, LSU sports fans, or Cold Fusion programmers.
What You Need to Know About Podcasting
Podcasting (define) is the technology buzz word for 2006. Podcasting done correctly, can be a powerful marketing communications tool. But if you don’??t understand the medium you can do more damage than good. And with the current software on the market, putting together a podcast is so easy many firms have started to produce them without understanding the basics. Before you start podcasting there are a few important points to consider:
- Think “??publishing,”?
iPodderX v3.0 Launched

Version 3.0 of iPodderX is available for download today. This upgrade to the Mac-based PodCasting app adds even more integration with iTunes and iPhotos, plus fixes a few bugs that have caused me a moment or two of heartache in the past. Along with few other features means this is still the best audio and video PodCasting app on the market.
Podcasting & Evhead
Evan Williams, the guy that founded Blogger and sold it to Google (insert cash register sound) is on to his next project. Podcasting. Click here to read how he came up with the idea for Odeo. Or read the New York Times story. It is interesting to say the least.
Right now I am using iPodderX on my iBook. It is sleak app. IMHO Podcasting has the potential to be as large, or larger then blogs. Just like blogs took readership away from newspapers, Podcasting is going to take marketshare away from radio broadcasts, or at least allow people to access broadcasts at a time of their choosing.
Still feeling my way around all the various feeds, but I really enjoy what KCRW has. Check out their list of Podfeeds. I’ll report back when I find a few more "winners."
